Captain Lindholm and the 'Hougomont'

R. Lindholm, captain of the Finnish barque, or windjammer, 'Hougomont', wearing a suit and hat, standing at Semaphore Anchorage next to a woman wearing a hat and long coat, and holding a handbag. Visible in the background is the 'Hougomont' which was wrecked in a fierce storm on 20 April, off the coast of Cape Borda, during a 129 day voyage from London to Adelaide. The battered and dismasted ship was brought safely to anchor near Semaphore on Monday 9 May 1932. Captain Lindholm was praised for his handling of the voyage. In January 1933 the ship made its final voyage to Stenhouse Bay, at the foot of Yorke Peninsula, to end its career as a breakwater. After the wreck, Captain Lindholm decided to retire from deep-sea sailing, and return home to Mariehamn, Finland to spend time with his wife and daughters. Caption from back of photograph: 'Captain Lindholm with disabled barque 'Hougomont' in background, Semaphore Anchorage. Jan 1933'. For more details see article 'The Hougomont. Struggle with storm. Crew's terrible ordeal' in 'The Sydney Morning Herald', Tuesday 10 May 1932, page 9.

[Music Posters]

[Music Posters]

Posters created by Alex Innocenti for various productions. See below for details of items. The State Library holds a collection of music, video, photographs, records, CDs/DVDs and memorabilia and ephemera which is a representation of the music industry in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. An example includes this collection of posters which were designed by Alex Innocenti, the entrepreneur behind Cellar Blues Promotions. Alex continued to create the graphics for promotion materials over an almost 30 year period. The posters are a graphic depiction of a point in time, with images of the bands and artist, painted and hand drawn in the graphic style of the day, well before the capacity to produce such promotions on a computer desk top. Some of the bands he promoted included Black Sabbath, Doug Parkinson In Focus, Cat Stevens, Daddy Cool and Billy Thorpe. Alex was also the driving force behind Adelaide's "Woodstock", the 70s music festival held at Myponga. Posters for the festival are included in this collection.
