Summary

R. Lindholm, captain of the Finnish barque, or windjammer, 'Hougomont', wearing a suit and hat, standing at Semaphore Anchorage next to a woman wearing a hat and long coat, and holding a handbag. Visible in the background is the 'Hougomont' which was wrecked in a fierce storm on 20 April, off the coast of Cape Borda, during a 129 day voyage from London to Adelaide. The battered and dismasted ship was brought safely to anchor near Semaphore on Monday 9 May 1932. Captain Lindholm was praised for his handling of the voyage. In January 1933 the ship made its final voyage to Stenhouse Bay, at the foot of Yorke Peninsula, to end its career as a breakwater. After the wreck, Captain Lindholm decided to retire from deep-sea sailing, and return home to Mariehamn, Finland to spend time with his wife and daughters.
