A researcher believes that Captain George Falconer from Aberdeen, Scotland, was the Captain the year that the 'Xantippe' went missing. The 'Daily Commercial News and Shipping List' (Sydney, Friday 8 February 1895) reports that: 'Captain Falconer, of tho British barquentine Xantippe, from Victoria. B.C. for Cork, which put into Skibbereen Harbor, November 28th, with the crew sick, has since died.' The researcher, a descendant of Captain Falconer, says: 'He snd his crew were caught in the Doldrums. Most succumbed to scurvy. Some were rescued and recovered to Skibbereen in Eire.'
