'The Diggers Hospital' 1920. No. 7 Australian General Hospital, 4th Military District, Keswick. The tram line to Keswick was opened on 18 September 1918, extending from the corner of Sturt Street and West Terrace (city) via Goodwood Road, Park Terrace (now Greenhill Road) and then down the Bay Road (later Anzac Highway). It enabled returned soldiers to get to the Hospital from the railway station and elsewhere.

The house was built before the railway line was constructed. The train would have been coming from Mount Lofty Station and this photograph was taken looking down the train line towards Number 8 tunnel and the Upper Sturt Railway Station situated just around the curve.

Central Park. a Rotunda can be seen in the middle of the photograph and two people sitting on a park bench. This is believed to be Sturt Park located in the heart of Broken Hill at the junction of Beryl and Chloride Streets. It now features The Titanic Memorial, in memory of the bandsmen of the Titanic who kept playing in the hope of maintaining calm while the ship went down in 1912. The broken column is not an unrepaired accident but an ancient Greek symbol of being cut down in youth.

One of two plaques at Innamincka - 'Captain Charles Sturt discovered Cooper Creek about fifteen miles west of this place on 13 October 1845. In his attempt to reach the centre of Australia his work prompted further exploration resulting in the pastoral occupation of this locality and western Queensland. Erected 1944.'

Greenlees and Presented by him to the Royal Society of South Australia, September 1923'.(SRG 10/37)The minutes of the Society for September read 'A letter from the donor accompanied the album and also one from Professor Howchin through whom the presentation was made'.(SRG 10/1).

The hand-tinted photograph is a curiosity in that the faces of John and Margaret have been superimposed on the bodies of another couple - apparently done because they could not afford the wedding clothes. They lived in Saltram Place off Sturt Street.
