[General Description] Head and shoulder portrait of Francis Stacker Dutton, the subject facing left. He is wearing a stand up collar and striped tie and has greying side whiskers and a moustache. He served as Premier of South Australia twice for short periods in 1863 and again in 1865. At the time of his death he was serving as agent-general in London for South Australia. He was credited with the discovery of copper at Kapunda in 1843 and was made a Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1872.

[General description] Studio portrait of Alexander Lang Elder, seated and leaning against a plinth on which his top hat rests. He came to Adelaide in 1839 on his father's ship the Minerva with a cargo of mixed goods, setting up business as a commission agent. He was very successful in various business ventures, later became a member of Upper House.

[General description] Head and upper body portrait of Sir Thomas Elder in seven eighths view. He is wearing the insignia for the 'Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George' (G.C.M.G.) which he recieved in 1887. He was a successful pastoralist and businessman who built up a large fortune which enabled him to provide support for several exploring expeditions and philanthropic causes. In 1874 he gave 20,000 pounds towards the establishment of the Adelaide University and later endowed the School of Music and the Medical School. These donations led to his honours, KCMG in 1878 and GCMG in 1887. He left generous legacies to many public institutions and charities in his will. He was also a Member of the Legislative Council in 1863-69 and 1871-78.

[General description] Upper body portrait of Police Sergeant John R. Ewens. He has short hair and mutton chop whiskers. In 1852 he was one of James Chambers' mail riders on the Coorong, later became a member of the South Australian Police Force from 1853. He was associated with the Adelaide- Melbourne telegraph line and with Major Warburton's explorations.

Clindening, stationed at Meningie on the left, and W. V. Ewens stationed at Mount Gambier, 1879-1882, on the right.

[General description] This is an upper body portrait of Boyle Travers Finniss, in three quarter view. He wears a jacket, double breasted waitcoat and mutton chop whiskers. Mr. Finniss, a surveyor, arrived in South Australia on the Cygnet in 1836 and as Surveyor General William Light's assistant had a role in the setting out of Adelaide and surrounds, later founding the site for Darwin. He was South Australia's first Premier for a brief period.

Born on the 25 September 1818 in London, he was the second son of James Hurtle Fisher. He arrived in the colony with his parents on the Buffalo In December, 1836. A noted racehorse owner and breeder he became one of the biggest pastoralists in Australia, eventually going bankrupt in 1895. He retired to Melbourne, then Adelaide where he died at Glenelg on 6 May 1908.

One of Adelaide's prominent citizens, he was a newspaper owner (The 'Register' and 'Observer'), parliamentarian and benefactor . An astute accountant and businessman, he was director for several firms including the Bank of Adelaide, the Port Adelaide Dock Co. and the South Australian Gas Co. He was an enthusiastic gardener, tending his large garden at Woodfield, Fullarton.

Ambrotype portrait of William Fisk, plumber and grazier, arrived in South Australia from Suffolk aboard the 'Historia' on 31 July 1854. Husband of Rebecca and father of Hannah and John, William died at Parkside on 14 February 1898, aged 75.

A surveyor and experienced bushman, he made several exploration trips into central Australia. He was appointed the first Premier of Western Australia on the 22nd December, 1890, providing ten years of stable government for the state . In 1918 he was informed that he was to be invested as a Baron but died before the patent was signed.
