Summary

[General description] A head and upper body portrait of Sir Winston, Governor of South Australia from 1934-1939. Sitting upright he faces the camera with elan, wearing ceremonial uniform with brass buttons, epaulettes and sword. He was a highly decorated soldier and later a very popular governor, appointed C.M.G. in 1918, later promoted Knight of the Order of St John (1935) and then G.C.M.G. in 1944. He was raised to the peerage in January 1949.
