Port Pirie Wharf. The Queen's Wharf was completed in October 1877 using silt removed from behind the wharfage. The harbour stood on a little creek divided into two parts. A bridge later joined the townships making Port Pirie a bustling port which needed more wharves and jetties.

The "Meinwen" at Port Pirie, afterwards it was changed to the Alfhild. The steel barque was built in 1892 in Liverpool. It sailed between Hamburg, The Thames, South Shields, Port Pirie and Port Adelaide. The name was changed to Alfhild when sold in 1910 to Norwegian owners. In 1925 it was sold and converted to a barge.

Visit of Captain F.H. (Frank) McNamara V.C. to Port Pirie on the 19th and 20th August 1920. This was part of the Second Peace Loan campaign. Capt. McNamara was flying an Avro 504K aeroplane. The event was reported in the 'Recorder' (Port Pire) on Thursday 19 August 1920.

[General description] The Institute Building at Port Pirie, built in 1896 is a symmetrical two storey stone building with bay windows on either side of the porticoed entrance. The roof features a centre gable and widow's walk. A new building, opened by Premier Hill was completed around this time. Broken Hill Proprietary's Smelters at Port Pirie where silver, lead and zinc ore mined at Broken Hill since 1883, was smelted. The smelter was taken over by Broken Hill Proprietary in 1915.

Port Pirie Town Hall which was knocked down and replaced by another government building. The photograph shows a pleasing two storey building with bay windows with shutters, a balcony over the portico on the front entrance. Quoins on the edges of the building add to the decoration of this stately Town Hall. It was erected in 1884.

Post Office at Port Pirie became part of the street scene of this affluent town in the 1870's. Agriculture and shipping were major factors of Port Pirie's wealth. Two cars are parked outside the post office in this photograph taken in 1932.
