According to a researcher the captain of this ship was Richard H Cary - who came from the fishing village of Mousehole in Cornwall England. He was one of five brothers - all were ships captains who spent time in Australian waters. Richard was the only one of the brothers who did not die at sea.

Then owners became Park Bros, registered London until sold to Shaw, Savill and Albion Ltd in mid 1880s and registered Southampton. Subsequently hulked. Was hulked in March 1899. As an auxiliary steamer visited Australia and New Zealand but as a full sailing ship became extremely well known in the emmigrant trades].

Stranded at Timaru, NZ, when named City of Perth in May 1882, salvaged and returned to England for full repairs, and sold to New Zealand Shipping and renamed. Remained in New Zealand trade until sold in 1899. Made a famous run of about 14 days in company with and sometimes outdistancing the same owner's steamer Ruapehu in the southern Indian Ocean.]
