[General description] The Port River showing wharves, warehouses and shipping.The six masted ship on the right is probably the American lumber schooner, the Dorothy H. Sterling (originally Oregon Pine), which was seized by the Harbors Board in 1929 for non-payment of Harbour charges and crew wages. She was sold to shipbreakers in 1931 and her remains lie in the North Arm of the Port River. [General description] This is the original Railway station at Port Adelaide, opened in April 1856. It is a large stone building with a tower and a curved roof over the platforms. A locomotive can be seen leaving the platform on the right. See B 34546 for an earlier view. Later, in 1916 a new station was built on Commercial Road and became the main Port Adelaide Railway Station, this original one being known as 'Port Dock'. See B 5520 for the new station. South Australia Company's Basin, looking west, showing the original iron swing bridge on the site of the later Robinson Bridge. On the right is Captain Hall's store, and to the left of it Levi's warehouse which later became the office of the Adelaide Steamship Co. at Port Adelaide. The land in the foreground was converted into a wharf in 1866/7 by the South Australian Company (later McIlwraith, McEachern's Wharf).

[General description] This view is seen through the rigging of a sailing ship moored on the Port River. Men walk and cycle across Jervois bridge which is busy with traffic including an M.T.T. bus. The bridge-keeper's gallery, with its wooden octagonal control box, straddles the centre of the bridge. Port Adelaide Sailing Club's Basin, Port River. The basin is situated on the Birkenhead side of the river a little west of the bridge being constructed in 1938-40. The new bridge to span the Port River is shown in the course of being constructed. The sixty ton floating crane can be seen in the background.

[General description] The barque 'John Rennie' moored in the Port River at Port Adelaide. She was built in 1853 and was abandoned at sea due to shifting cargo in 1892.

Arrival of River Murray paddle steamer "Ulonga" at Port Adelaide, the last vessel to negotiate the Murray mouth and believed to be the first paddle steamer to call at Port Adelaide since 1905. It was brought to Adelaide by Capt. B. J. Tainsh in February 1948 (after sheltering in Kangaroo Island for a couple of days due to having open hatches). The boiler was wood fired and of necessity used sea water as feed. Later, when the boiler was opened, huge salt crystals covered the heating surfaces. She sank off Carrickalinga Beach carrying a cargo of gypsum in 1976

Shipping at Port Adelaide. At this time a new dock was being excavated and the silt in the river was becoming a problem. People at the time were keen to open up the North Arm as the new Port but were defeated by those with vested interests in the position of the current port.

Watercolour sketch of Port Adelaide from Peninsula side opposite the Commercial Road steps. An inscription on the back of the painting indicates that this work is a copy from an original by J. M. Skipper (dated ca.1840). Captain Quin, Harbour Master, considered the date of the sketch to be about 1840. Mr John Neill who resided in the adjoining store on the left dates it as being 1840 or 1841. The Port opening October 14, 1840.

Watercolour painting of Port Adelaide by Harry Pelling Gill, dated "07". The artwork shows a small estuary with the Port River behind that and ships, wharves and buildings in the background. A note on the backing papers reads 'Presented to Helen Wright by Harry Gill, an artist, on Aug. 19, 1914. Bequeathed by Helen Wright to Dr Helen Young, and gifted to Dr C. Young in 1951. He died in August 1986. Inherited by his wife'. A further annotation on the backing board (obscured by the mounting) reads '(121) 908B/1 Bn Low tide - Hawkers Creek - River - Port Adelaide'.
