[General description] A tram is crossing the Jervois Bridge. Warehouses and docks are seen in the background. [General description] A view along St. Vincent Street on a wet day showing civic buildings and shops lining the street. Tram lines are seen in the centre of the road. The plinth mentioned below is the base for the Worker's Memorial and the statue yet to be added is that of Justice with her scales of equality. [On back of photograph] '1920-21 / St.Vincent Street, Port Adelaide / The pedestal on the far right was erected on 8 November 1918. The statue was not added to the pedestal until 16 September 1921'.

[General description] The Town Hall on St Vincent Street was designed by architects Woods and Wright and features a clock tower and belfry, the foundation stone being laid by Sir James H. Fisher on 10 June, 1865 with the official opening on 29 August 1866. The clock was imported from London on the Indes in 1867. The building on the left has a shopfront which sells a variety of goods including wash tubs. Young street trees have wooden tree-guards to protect them. Prince Alfred Sailors' Home

Prince Alfred Sailors' Home, Port Adelaide on the eve of its demolition on 17 October 1932. It was located on the southern side of St. Vincent Street on the eastern corner of Todd Street. The home was built after a suggestion from the visiting Prince Alfred. It was agreed that Captains should discharge their seamen upon arrival in Port Adelaide where they were looked after in the home and were fit and healthy to work well on the return voyage. The home was demolished in 1932 after years of disuse.

[General description A very busy scene at Number 1 dock as goods are unloaded from interstate and overseas vessels. A man poses with his cart drawn by two draught horses in front of an array of Sunshine agricultural equipment, including stripper harvesters. Warehouses are seen in the background and on the right is the Australian ship SS Mareeba at the dock. Post and Telegraph Offices, Port Adelaide. The scaffolding on the Customs House is for the final work performed on the building. The symmetrical Italianate Telegraph Office was completed in 1868 and housed the Port Adelaide telephone exchange which opened in 1883. This photograph shows the bluestone building with chimneys and cement rendered dressings.

Dunn's Mill, Port Adelaide. This six storey steam flour mill was erected by John Dunn junior and was producing flour by 1866. It was burned down later that same year. Sabotage was suspected and the mill was rebuilt the following year and destoyed by fire again in 1887. Dunn eventually owned eleven steam mills. The mill in this photograph was situated between the Port Adelaide railway yard and Lipson Street.

Port Adelaide showing the Copper Company wharf. The English and Australian Copper Company built a smelter at Port Adelaide in 1861. It was built right on the river bank and produced copper ingots from the ore mined at Burra. The smelter operated until 1912. More wharves were constructed to cope with the expected arrival of ships carrying ore and coal and transporting the copper ingots to England and other countries.

The "Torrens", Port Adelaide

The "Torrens" at Port Adelaide. She was a three mast clipper ship designed to carry passengers and cargo between London and Port Adelaide. She was the fastest ship to sail on that route. She was built in Sunderland 1875 of composite construction. She carried a main sky sail yard and for many years was the only vessel with studding sail booms running in the Australian trade. She was aimed at the upper end of the market with accommodation for first and second class passengers

Court House at Port Adelaide. Combined Police Station (left), Court House (centre) and Customs House (right), at the corner of Saint Vincent Street and Commercial Road, Port Adelaide. It was built in 1859 and still extant in 2006. This Italian style brick and bluestone building was built in the 1870s and had a cupola over the central portion.
