New dock, Port Adelaide with the "Waimate" at anchor. A fine iron clipper, she was launched from Blumer's Yard at Sunderland in 1874, and was considered the number one ship of the New Zealand Shipping Company's fleet. After a distinguished career she was sold in 1896 to the Russians and renamed Valkyrian. Sadly, in 1899 she sailed from Newcastle, N.S.W., with a coal cargo for Iquique, Chile, and was never heard of again.

Queen's Wharf at North Parade, Port Adelaide. The building to the left is the Queen's Stores owned by the Government. In 1872 it was rented by Henry Simpson and Son, coal merchants. Ships are berthed at the wharf, and wagons for moving cargo are seen in the foreground.

Town Hall, Port Adelaide. Two men, one with a bicycle, are standing on the pavement in front of the building. A billboard is advertising entertainments at the Hall. It was designed by architects Woods and Wright, and the foundation stone was laid by Sir James H. Fisher on 10th June, 1865. It was opened on 29th August, 1866. The clock was imported from London aboard the Indes in 1867.

On the right is the busy street with horse drawn carriages and bullock wagons which are taking bales (wool?) to be loaded onto ships whose masts can be seen on the river beyond. [General description] The busy wharf at Port Adelaide showing shipping, warehouses and the town buildings on North Parade beyond. The single funnelled ship in the centre is the SS Zealandia, built at Clydebank, Scotland circa 1910 to be a cargo and passenger ship. She was requisitioned to serve as a troop ship in both World Wars and was sunk in Darwin Harbour on the19th February 1942 in the first Japanese bombing attack of Darwin. [General description] A view along St. Vincent Street on a wet day showing civic buildings and shops lining the street. Tram lines are seen in the centre of the road. The plinth mentioned below is the base for the Worker's Memorial and the statue yet to be added is that of Justice with her scales of equality. [On back of photograph] '1920-21 / St.Vincent Street, Port Adelaide / The pedestal on the far right was erected on 8 November 1918. The statue was not added to the pedestal until 16 September 1921'.
