An assortment of rolling stock at an unidentified rail yard. [Identified as 'Early breakdown crane and ancillary wagons at Peterborough locomotive depot' by W. Hoskin.] According to another resercher, 'the crane was manufactured by Cowans, Sheldon of Carlisle in the 1880s or 1890s. The crane is chain roped, and fitted with derricking poles, typical for an early machine. Note the florid style of works plate typical for that firm.'

An assortment of rolling stock at an unidentified rail yard. [Identified as 'Breakdown crane at Peterborough locomotive depot' by W. Hoskin.] According to another researcher, the crane was built by Industrial Works, Bay City, Michigan, in 1905. (Steel underframe, converted to broad gauge in 1923, with road number 3979, and reconverted to narrow gauge in 1928 and numbered 3321 again. Originally only handbraked, but later air braked as well. Also converted from link coupler and buffers to centre coupling at some stage. Withdrawal not known.)

[Identified as 'Coal train from Leigh Creek departing Quorn bound for Peterborough' by W. Hoskin.]. A reseacher indicates that all coal mined at Leigh Creek was transported by rail to Port Augusta for electricity generation.

Hoskin believes it is a 'Narrow gauge Brill Railcar and 2 short tom carriages departing Solomontown Junction (Port Pirie), bound for Peterborough'.] It has also been described as a 'Narrow gauge Brill 75 class railcar no 104 hauling two short tom passenger cars out of Port Pirie.'

Views from the Teeltulpa gold field

A collection of 24 images of life on the Teetulpa gold field. Some of the 24 photographs have the following inscriptions on them : Wachingal Tonkins Well, O'Keene's Claim, Brady's Claim, Suslin's Gully, Windlass Hill Brady's Gully, Dipping water for washing, Panning off, Water selling Brady's Gully, Warden settling a dispute, Brady's Gully, New Rush, Washing at Tonkin's Well, Washing at Tonkin's Well, Fossicking, Brady's Gully, Ghosts of departed diggers haunting Tonkin's Well at midnight, Teelulpa City. By the end of 1886 there were more than five thousand men on the Teetulpa Gold Fields. Brady's Gully, named by Thomas Brady who discovered gold in 1886, had two thousand diggers by the end of the first month. Teetulpa Gold Field is located 90 kms from Peterborough and near Yunta.

The iron ship 'Sutlej', 1742 tons, docked in Darling Harbour, Sydney, Town Hall clearly visible on right [iron ship, 1742 tons, ON94365, 260.3 x 38.2 x 23.1. Built 1888 (2) Russell and Co., Port Glasgow. Owners: Foley and Co., registered London. Sold c.1907 and renamed 'Antares' by Italian owners. Wrecked off the Victorian coast, west of Peterborough late in 1914, with the loss of her entire crew when on a voyage from Marseilles to Melbourne. Apparently struck the base of a high cliff and foundered].

The steel barque 'Newfield', 1512 tons, after being stranded [possibly also known as the 'Gwydyr Castle']. According to a researcher, the 'Newfield' was built by Alexander Stephen in Dundee & built for Brownells & Co. of Liverpool. 29 Aug 1892 - stranded when Cape Otway light was mistaken for King Island on passage Sharpness - Brisbane with 1850Te salt. 9 crew were lost. The next Newfield ON 102113 was built at the same yard in 1893, presumably as a replacement for the same owner. She was later called Gwydyr Castle and was scrapped in 1932.
