Strangways Terrace
East corner of Strangways Terrace and Hill Street. This house was built by architect Sir George Strickland Kingston (1807-1880) for The Honourable William Younghusband. It was demolished in 1925. The attractive house in the photograph consists of a large bay window on the western side, multiple arches over a front portico and a wing of the house consisting of an arcade of arches open to the elements towards the east. William Younghusband was one of the principal merchants in Adelaide, Director of the Bank of Australasia, Chairman of Adelaide Silver-Lead Mine, Member of Children's Apprenticeship Board, Trustee of the Gawler Town Church. He was a wealthy and influential member of the community. He was also Chief Secretary responsible for organising all the Government Departments under the Hanson Government. He left Adelaide in 1861 and died in London of typhoid fever aged just 49.

[General description] A prosperous looking family pose in front of their large Federation style house. The ornate red brick house features gables, decorative timber fretwork and a tiled roof. Ward Street, North Adelaide
[General description] Large two storey stone house with iron lace decorated verandah posts and balcony, set in a lush garden, which features a tall palm. A Holden sedan is parked in front. Jeffcott Street, North Adelaide
[General description] This large two storey stone building, complete with clock tower is situated on the corner of Jeffcott and Ward Streets. The photograph was probably taken around the time of the opening of the school in September 1882. A number of students and staff (and possibly student's families) are posing for the photographer on the footpath outside the walls of the school. [On back of photograph] 'A Sweet photograph (1882-86) of Whinham College, a prominent private school for 40 years / Previously the North Adelaide Grammar School it moved into this building in 1882 and closed in 1898 / It is now the Lutheran Immanuel Theological College'.

[General description] This three storey block of modernist flats is named 'Kingsmead'. Street trees, parked cars and a large utility pole are in front of the building. O'Connell Street, North Adelaide
[General description] City buildings with tram in O'Connell Street. Ornate tram poles march down the centre of the road with large utility poles along the eastern kerb. [General description] This modest brick and render cottage has a large portico which appears as if added on later. The front fence is plain cyclone wire on wooden posts. [General description] This large new two storey house is in the heavy Californian Bungalow style of the nineteen twenties and replaces a similar one storey house. (See B 3852). O'Connell Street
North east corner of O'Connell Street and Archer Street, January 14th 1936, Archer Street frontage is 29 yards and O'Connell Street frontage is 16.5 yards. Showing alterations effected in 1935. Compare with B 6467. Site measurements for one storey shops are: Archer Street frontage 29 yards. O'Connell Street frontage 16.5 yards. Dunstan's Meat Service shop stands on the corner next to P. LeCornu Undertaking Business. A large sign above the undertaker advertises LeCornu's Furnishing Warehouse.


Watson Street, North Adelaide
Watson Street, north side, behind Archer Street Methodist Church, January 18th 1929, left side of building is 28 yards east of Centenary Street and frontage is 35 yards. This building was erected in 1928, on the site formerly occupied by the structure gutted a year or two previously in LeCornu's fire. This plain brick single storey building has a large entrance suitable for deliveries, small barred and shuttered windows and two doorways. There is a row of small glass windows along the length of the building at ceiling height, making the building look like a warehouse or factory.


Centenary Street near Archer Street
East corner of Centenary Street and Archer Street, 1893, frontage of church is 27 yards and frontage of church on right is 23 yards. The impressive Wesleyan Church has twin steeples and a large stained glass window on the street frontage.


Archer Street
Archer Street, north side, Methodist Church was opened in 1857 and demolished in 1964 due to declining congregation numbers. The adjoining hall was erected in 1883 to a design by architect Daniel Garlick. The church was an imposing tall structure with twin spires and a large stain glass window over the porch.


Gloucester Place
Gloucester Place, south side; June 23 1936. Site of cottage in foreground: 30 yards east of Wellington Square. Frontage: 9-1/2 yards. The ramshackle cottage is in a bad state of repair. The side wall is crumbling and a large hole appears in the wall of the adjoining building.


Molesworth Street, North Adelaide
[General description] This 'storybook' white cottage has a high pitched tiled roof, its windows have wooden shutters and there is a lattice-work gate. There is a garage at its rear. On the left is a large utility pole with a prop. [General description] This is a large single storey gentleman's house with decorative stained glass and a bay window, partially obscured behind its garden shrubs and stone front wall. Caledonian Hotel, North Adelaide
[General description] Walkerville Ales are advertised on the wall of this hotel which was built in 1870 and is still extant in 2017. Mr. J.H. Carter is the licensee (from 1913-1922) at the time this photograph was taken. Tram wires hang over the intersection and lines are seen on the street. Note the large utility pole on the right. Colley Street, east side, 17th May 1963, right side of building is 51 yards north of MacKinnon Parade and frontage is 20 yards. The building appears to be a factory with blinds over two of the windows and a large doorway for receiving and dispatching goods
