[General description] The large crowd of the unionist watersiders lining the barricades around the Port Adelaide Police Station just before they entered the office adjoining these premises to register under the Transport Workers' Act. It was estimated that throughout the day about 1,460 unionists and 600 volunteers signed their names and received certificates. The photograph on the right is of the queue filing Into the bureau. [General description] The Rectory, built in 1883 is a large stone two storey Victorian house with a symmetrical front and a wide verandah at ground level and a smaller one with balcony on the upper floor. Both are heavily decorated with iron lace. The verandah roofs are painted in broad stripes. The group of children at the front fence are probably those of Reverend F.S. Poole, incumbent at St. John's from 1874-1895. [General description] The view along Russell Street shows the three storey high stone wall of the factory building. A man is pedalling up the street on a tricycle with a large carrying compartment in front. Burford and Sons manufactured soap, candles, starch, blue, black lead, soda crystals, blacking, Brunswick black and lubricating oils. [General description] The Bell Inn is a two storey stone building with a corner entrance and a wide double storey front verandah which features a large advertisement for Penfolds Port. Mrs Jean A. Peterson was the licensee from 7th May- 6th November 1932 so this photograph was probably taken then. This hotel, now known as the Gilbert, is still in operation in 2012. See B 3915 for a photo before addition of verandah and short history of the hotel. Little Gilbert Street, Mohammedan Mosque was built in 1888 to cater for the large Islamic community living in Adelaide at the time. Thomas Elder introduced 100 camels and 31 Afghan camel handlers to aid in the exploration of inland Australia and the building of the Overland Telegraph Line. This is the oldest surviving Mosque in Australia. The pool provided a place to wash prior to praying and the tessallated pavement is laid in the porch which is enclosed with numerous columns. The mosque is enclosed in a flower filled garden. In the photograph five Islamic men can be seen near the pool.

It is a sevice station and provides spare parts for Dodge Brothers motor vehicles and Graham Brothers trucks. [General description] This is a classic Californian Bungalow style house of the period featuring a wide half timbered gable across its enclosed front verandah. It has its name, "Dunnottar" on its fascia board above the entrance. Note the large monkey puzzle tree on the left. [General description] Large house on the corner of East Terrace and Gilles Street. Possibly the home of T.N. Hardy Vinegrower. The rambling two storey house has arches covering a verandah on the ground floor and balconies on the first floor facing the parklands. Creeping vines cover much of the house. [On back of photograph] Acre 661. South corner of East Terrace and Gilles Street. About 1896. Telegraph pole on the extreme right is 47-1/2 yards west of East Terrace. [General description] This large two storey house, probably once the residence of wealthy family is now the premises of the Totally and Permanently Disabled Soldiers Memorial Club. South Terrace east, west corner of Louisa Street, showing "Metuenda", a private residence. Frontage: 19 1/2 yards. The large two storey double winged house has a recessed front door and overhead balcony. Across the roofs of all three parts of the house stands a balustraded parapet. The house stands on a prominent site on the corner of Louisa Street and South Terrace. The owner was Friedrich Christian Wilhelm Bruggemann who arrived in Port Adelaide from Bremen, Germany in 1856. He was aged twenty and his occupation was a saddler. The house was for some time used as a hospital or 'Patients' Home'.

Known as Torrens House it became the premises for the Mothers and Babies Health Association's mothercraft hospital and training school in 1939. [General Description] Green Dragon Hotel on the corner of South Terrace and Hanson Street, now Pulteney Street. A large hoarding advertises Lion Flour, Blaca Collars Shirts and Pyjamas, Viceroy Tea, Soap "Safeguard baby's priceless down and that schoolgirl complexion." The Wondergraph Theatre is advertising a performance of "The Necessary Evil" with Ben Lyon and Viola Dana on Saturday November 28th. [On back of photograph] Acre 677 Hanson Street, West side Nov. 27th 1925. The hoarding and all the little premises next to it, with the exception of the one marked "Farrier and Smith", were demolished in 1926 and a petrol service station was erected on the site. On the left is South Terrace, on extreme right is Delhi Street.
