Hutt Street, west side, north corner of Wakefield Street, 25 July 1933. A large two storey bluestone house stands on the corner of Wakefield Street and Hutt Street. The property is enclosed by a tall picket fence. A public telephone box stands on the corner of the footpath. This building was known as Carnarvon Mansions, a guest-house and boarding house. It was demolished in 1933 for the new Wakefield Street Private Hospital.

True to it's name the building has multiple glass windows. An Abbott's lorry is parked in Daly Street at the side of the building.

Frontage of cottage on east corner of Oakley Place: 29 yards, their far side is 72 yards west of Morphett Street. Cottages on right side form site of Gerrard Wire Tying Machines Co. in 1956. Number 15 has a large Norfolk Island Pine in the front garden.

Left side is 133 yards east of West Terrace.' [General description] A priest can be seen standing inside the doorway of this newly completed church, seen in three quarter view. Outside a woman tends to a baby in a large perambulator. Designed by Woods Bagot the church was dedicated on 15 March, 1914. It was said to be inspired by the Church of the Holy Spirit in Florence and the design, based on a basilica, originally included a sacristy and dome. However a combination of insufficient funds and the outbreak of World War 1meant that the project remained unfinished.

[General description] This view features the premises of Coventry Motors, a cottage and the Sportsman's Hotel with utility poles and wires silhouetted against the sky. A pair of heavily pruned ficus trees stand at the roadside. Children are playing in front of the building and near two large crates. William N. White is the licensee of the Hotel at this time. [General description] The Hub Motors Service Station. The business premises include a large galvanised iron roofed workshop and a smaller shop front. Petrol bowsers stand at the kerb. A sign proclaims 'Cars washed, oiled and greased. While you wait'. The business advertises Morris Cowley and Cleveland cars and Indian and B.S.A. Motor Cycles. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 328 / Brown St., west side / south corner of Grote St., / June 27,1926. / Service Station erected in 1926. For view of the Grote St. frontage see B 3612. For view of the building formerly on site see B 2260. Frontage: 22 yards.' (Another hand) 'For view of this Service Station taken in 1954, see B 13154. Covered way at rear was removed during first half of 1955.' The business was established by Walter Henry Hubbard, Managing Director of Hub Motors Ltd. It was one of five service stations that he owned in the city.

Victoria Square, looking south from Government offices situated on the corner of Flinders and King William Streets. The court buildings can be seen on the south western side of the square. The gardens in Victoria Square are laid out in triangles of grass, trees and shrubs. Large stone cubes have been placed around the outer boundary of the square inside the treeline.

Wakefield Street, south side, October 3rd 1864. German School is about 16 yards east of Chancery Lane. A near duplicate photograph is at B 37440. German School in Wakefield Street, Adelaide was founded in 1851 by H von Schleinitz who arrived in Adelaide from Bremen in 1849. Early teachers included Hansen, Klette and Nootnagel. H von Schleinitz left in 1852. The photograph shows the headmaster Mr Leschen standing outside the two storey school with his students in 1864. They are wearing uniforms and white sashes. A band is playing on the first floor balcony. A large Bundesadler (Federal or Imperial Eagle) can be seen in front of the doorway to the school. The photograph was taken on October 3, 1864 just before the teachers and pupils, headed by a band, left for a picnic. The Headmaster was Herr Leschen.

Wakefield Street, south side, 19 October 1898, showing the home of Sir Langdon Bonython. Far side of house is 92 yards east of Hutt Street. Frontage of house and garden: 43 yards. The single storey bluestone house has a large bay window at the front and numerous rooms with different shaped pitched roofs looking over the garden which is on the east of the house. The whole property is surrounded by a bluestone wall, wooden fence and hedges.

[General description] A. Simpson & Sons' new factory, constructed from galvanised iron. It features a large expanse of multi-panelled windows. The photograph was probably taken in autumn as street trees in front of the building are losing their leaves. In 1910 Alfred M. Simpson's sons joined the business with Alfred M. as chairman, and Alfred Allen and his brother Frederick Neighbour as directors. [On back of photograph] 'Acres 370 & 369 / Angas Street, north side / April 18, 1926 / Simpson & Sons factory / Three storey portion was erected in 1925 on the site formerly occupied by a lower galvanised structure. / Near side of three storey part is 30 yards east of Princes Street. [General description] Peoplestores has had an upgrade, with a smart new facade in the art deco style featuring large plate glass windows, partially leaded and a wide cantilevered verandah. The Central Market is on the right. [General description] A man is digging in front of a row of cottages. He is doing something with pipes as there are several pieces of pipe in his wheelbarrow and on the footpath. His broom and shovel are propped against a large handcart at the kerb.Other implements lean against a telephone pole. [General description] In May 1887 Laura Mary Louisa Corbin founded the South Adelaide Day Nursery (later known as Creche) to provide affordable high standard childcare for working mothers. This was a popular cause. In August 1896, watched by a large crowd she laid the foundation stone for this beautiful dolls-house like building, paid for by donations from the Children's Sunbeam Society. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 407 / Gouger Street, south side / July 21st 1897 / The South Adelaide Creche / The left side of the creche is 10 yards west of Mill Street and frontage is 10 yards'.

[General description] Two Adelaide villas (probably bluestone). One is one storey and the other is two storey, both with iron lace decoration on their verandahs. The Co-operative stores can be seen on the left, with its name displayed on a large sign on its roof.
