Copy of a photograph taken by Captain Felix Bolton, a great grandson of Sir John Hindmarsh, first Governor of South Australia. Forwarded to Sir Ted Johns of Adelaide by Sir E A Hindmarsh Stephen of Haberfield, Sydney, grandson of Hindmarsh and presented by Sir Johns to the South Australian Archives Department, 8th May, 1929. Tombstone reads ' Sacred to the memory of Rear Admiral Sir John Hindmarsh, Knt. KH who died on the 29th of July 1860, aged 76 years. Also in memory of Susanna Wilson, Lady Hindmarsh, the beloved wife of the above who died on the 2nd of April 1859, aged 73 years. Also in memory of Ann Hindmarsh.'

The boundaries of the hundreds with the County are shown in colours and an inset map shows the adjoining Counties of Russell and Sturt around the Murray Lakes, Hindmarsh Island and the Murray Mouth. Lake Alexandrina is shown as Lake Victoria (its change of name proposed after the accession of Queen Victoria). Archival copies indicate land and section holdings of the South Australian Company.

A jigsaw puzzle in colour depicting a painting of Governor Hindmarsh's Proclamation on 28th December 1836. Governor Hindmarsh and other officials stand in the centre, under an old gum tree, with soldiers standing in formation behind, and citizens gathered to watch the ceremony. In the background, a group of Aboriginal people watch the proceedings from a distance. Text from the puzzle: 'Governor Hindmarsh's Proclamation - 1836. on 28th December, 1836, Governor Hindmarsh landed from H.M.S. 'Buffalo' at Holdfast Bay, Glenelg, and the Proclamation establishing the Government of South Australia was read. The ceremony took place near an old gum tree, which together with the land on which it stood, later came into the possession of Mr. John Hector, the first officer of The Savings Bank of South Australia. In 1857, when South Australia came of age, Mr. Hector ceded the property to the Glenelg Corporation so that the historic tree could be preserved as a memorial. Issued by The Savings Bank of South Australia'. On the back of the paper envelope is an advertisement for The Savings Bank of South Australia: 'My Bank' to more than half a million South Australians', with a photograph of the Head Office building in King William Street, Adelaide, and a list of South Australian branch offices.

Rear Admiral Sir John Hindmarsh was a naval officer and the first Governor of South Australia. He arrived in South Australia on board the "Buffalo" in 1836. Hindmarsh wanted the colony to be settled at Port Lincoln. Colonel Light chose the site of Adelaide, named for Queen Adelaide, King William IV's wife. Hindmarsh was governor for little over a year, an unfortunate episode in an otherwise distinguished career. His position was anomalous from the start.
