[General description] The Hindmarsh Model School was officially opened by the Minister of Education (Hon. N. Blyth) on July 5th, 1978. It is built of Glen Osmond stone with brick dressings and features a bell tower. Across the front of the building runs a low wall with ornamental iron railings. The contractor was Mr. James Shaw. [On back of photograph] 'Reproduced in the 'Advertiser' / Public School, Hindmarsh / 1928' (Another hand) 'Erected before 1886 at least'.

Thomas Magarey's Mill and cottage, between Manton and Roberts Streets Hindmarsh, facing the River Torrens. The Mill was demolished about 1903, it incorporated some of John Ridley's Mill machinery. Thomas Magarey [1825-1902] was a businessman and Churches of Christ founder in South Australia. In 1845 he settled at Noarlunga and managed a flour mill. In 1850 he bought John Ridley's flour mill at Hindmarsh. He was a successful businessman and built a large house at Enfield which boasted a Turkish bath and telescope to study the stars. He was founding shareholder of the Bank of Adelaide, part owner of "The Register", founding member of the Adelaide Club and member of both Lower and Upper Houses. The photograph shows the mill with its rounded iron roof, a house and a tall brick chimney.

Peacock's wool washing stages on the River Torrens. Peacock's wool scouring premises, Hindmarsh. In 1870 a newly erected dam at Hindmarsh, built by W Peacock and Sons was used to wash wool. The dam crossed the River Torrens and was 80 feet in length and 27 feet in thickness. This photograph shows piles of fleeces being washed next to the River Torrens.

It was remodelled and enlarged in 1936 to the design of Chris Smith, an architect noted for his Art Deco buildings, particularly Town Hall/ Cinema combinations.
