The iron ship 'Knight of the Thistle', 1489 tons, moored in an unidentified port [possibly the former 'Don Diego'] [possible also known as 'Hoppet'] [iron ship 1489 tons, ON78782, 232.6 x 37.9 x 22.7. Built 1878 (4) T Royden and Son, Liverpool; Greenshields, Cowie and Co., registered Liverpool c.1897 sold foreign and renamed 'Hoppet' and later 'Novo' under the flag of Norway. In 1914 put into the River Plate, damaged and was condemned. During wartime shortages she was recommissioned and renamed 'Don Diego' and was broken up in 1928 when under the flag of Uruguay].

The steel ship 'Port Errol', 1935 tons, anchored in an unidentified harbour [Note from Ron Parsons - 'This vessel not owned by Crawford and Rowat] [steel ship, 1935 tons, ON104594, 264.3 x 39.0 x 23.5. Built 1894 (11) Russsell and Co., Port Glasgow. Owners: CA Banck, registered Glasgow. Destroyed by fire in January 1895. While built for Crawford and Rowat never sailed for them as scuttled when took fire while loading for her maiden voyage. She was raised and repaired and became in succession the 'Svea' Swedish flag; 'Oregon' registered Bremen, 'Fritz Smith', Norwegian flag and finally 'Ekelund'].

Built 1887 (5) Russell and Co., Port Glasgow. Owners: J Dickson and Co. Registered Glasgow, later EF and W Roberts, registered Liverpool. c.1910 became the Norwegian 'Erbrin' then during WW1 sold to Sweden and renamed 'Magda' c.1919/1920 renamed 'Gullmarn' under Danish flag]. The ship is seen here under a Norwegian flag between 1910-1915.

Armistice Day ceremony in the Soldiers' Memorial Garden, on Saturday 11 November 1922. The Union Jack was lowered to half mast, Trumpeter-Sergeant A.T.H. Neale sounded the Last Post, followed by two minutes of silence, the raising of the flag and The Reveille. The Mayor of Unley, Mr. H.C. Richards M.P., was in charge of the proceedings. A wreath of white roses made by the chief gardener was hung on the flag mast.

Gjoa on the Northwest Passage expedition

Lantern slide of an illustration titled 'Nordvest Passagen' (Northwest Passage) of of the yacht-like vessel 'Gjoa', with its Captain Roald Amundsen, Norwegian polar explorer, on board with his expedition participants. The ship has all sails unfurled, and is flying the flag of Norway and a flag with the name 'Gjoa'. The ship was built in 1872. Amundsen led the first expedition to sail through the Northwest Passage between the Atlantic and Pacific, from 1903 to 1906. The members of the crew were: Anton Lund, Helmer Hanssen, Godfred Hansen, Roald Amundsen, Peder Ristvedt, Hendrik Lindstrom and Gustav Juel Wiik.
