Parked at the kerbsides are a horse and cart, a bicycle and a shiny Rolls Royce (registered to Mrs. K. Tennant of Glenelg in July 1925, registration number 47172). A man is pedalling up the street on a tricycle with a large carrying compartment in front. Burford and Sons manufactured soap, candles, starch, blue, black lead, soda crystals, blacking, Brunswick black and lubricating oils. [General description] The Bell Inn is a two storey stone building with a corner entrance and a wide double storey front verandah which features a large advertisement for Penfolds Port. Mrs Jean A. Peterson was the licensee from 7th May- 6th November 1932 so this photograph was probably taken then. This hotel, now known as the Gilbert, is still in operation in 2012. See B 3915 for a photo before addition of verandah and short history of the hotel. [General description] A row of petrol bowsers stands in front of the service station next door to the Elephant and Castle Hotel. This hotel is a two storey stone building with balcony, complete with iron lace and has existed on or near the site since 1849. A sign on the wall of the hotel displays the name of its current licensee, M.S.W. Kenny and an advertisement for Walkerville Ales. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 622 / West Terrace / June 8, 1927 / Service station erected in 1926 on site frmerly occupied by a weighbridge. / Near side of service station is 38 yards north of Gilbert Street.
