A researcher has provided the following information: 'Warwick House was at 44 Rundle Street, (north side, Acre 44) not 44 Hindley Street. In 1871, Courtney Cooke (of Regent House, Hindley Street) purchased the drapery business of Mr. L. Roach who occupied the Rundle Street premises prior to this.

The people standing in front of the store are probably the proprietor, his children and staff. Clothing is displayed in the shop window of Cook Son & Company's Men and Boys Outfitters (the new two storey building on the right), and a three storey brick building, the premises of S.A. Paper and Bag Company, is seen in the centre of the view. Compare with B 2390 / Far side of Cook's is 32.5 yards south of Hindley Street. Frontage of new building: 9.5 yards.'

[General description] Hindley Street with cars, pedestrians and shops. Three two storey buildings that feature in this view are premises for businesses, from left: Frith Jones, Tailor and Mercer, A. & A. Coles, Tobacconists and the Public Benefit Boot Company. [On back of photograph] 'Acre 76 / Hindley Street, south side / Sept. 21, 1927 / On the right is Leigh Street. Hindley Street frontage of the two story shops: 18 yards.' (Another hand) 'The three two storey shops were demolished in 1928. (See B 5931 and B 6063'. According to a researcher, at the right hand side is the W.T. Flint hardware store, which was in operation until approximately 1940s. The store used a aerial wired system to ransfer money from the counter staff to the cash controller staff.

[General description] Hoopers Furnishers' new three storey building exudes confidence, its style reflecting the extreme optimism of the times before the Wall Street crash in October 1929. Its upstairs section features tall arched windows and the corner site enables it to have a large expanse of plate glass windows. There are cantilever verandahs on both street frontages. [General description] This is a three storey building known as Aston House, originally the site of the Black Horse Hotel. It has interesting arched windows surrounding four front entrances. One man (on the left) has ridden a horse into town. [General description] This two storey building, veiwed from the opposite side of Hindley Street, has a decorative parapet and a wide verandah on both floors, decorated with iron lace. It is the former White Hart Hotel which existed on this site from 1844 (known as the Volunteer 1840-44). There is a sale in progress in Dryen's Tailors on the ground floor. [General description] This view looks from Currie Street along Gilbert Place, focusing on the Gilbert Building where a group of men pose by its arched doorway. These premises were altered later in 1934 by architect Albert Langhans for Buring and Sobel vignerons and the building was known thereafter as Queltaler House. City buildings and shops are seen on either side of the street. Shown on the North side of the street are The C.J. Young Shoe Co., Barlow's Shoes, a chemist, Stevenson's Jewellers clock and Marshall's Dept Store. Shown on the South side are Thelma-Duryea Photographic Studio, Bricknell's Cafe, the Grand Theatre, Sigalas & Co., Cawthorne's Piano & Music Warehouse, Kindermann's Cafe (est.1851), Charlick Bros Grocers & Teamen, and De-Lany's Red Lion Hotel. Three motor vehicle registrations are visible: 06034 is a Lagonda 11 registered in September 1915 to Mr. E.K. Collins of Mount Bryan, 04016 is a Buick registered to W.D. Taylor of Brougham place, North Adelaide, and 2509 was registered in 1912 to A. Addicoat of Adelaide. A young girl in the centre foreground is carrying a small Australian flag.
