[General description] Halifax House, established in 1885, which houses E. Overall Store on Brown Street running off Grote Street. An entrance to J. Thomas Fuel Merchant's Yard is next to a small cottage nearby. A workman on a ladder is painting the house nextdoor. Goods sold at the store include Cadbury chocolate, velvet soap and Amgoorie Tea. [On back of photograph] Acre 328. Brown Street, west side, January 15th 1926. The two storey structure adjoining Overall's store was demolished in 1952, and the buildings on the left at some earlier date. For new building completed on the site in 1954 ses B 12954. Extreme left is 70 yards south of Grote Street. Right side of two storey building on right is 27.5 yards south of Grote Street.

Moonta Street
Moonta Street, West side, 21 May 1941, the near side of the two storey building is 48 yards south of Grote Street. The two storey brick building in the centre was erected in 1940. Compare with B 9301. The premises of National Radio Company can be seen in Grote Street opposite the junction with Moonta Street.

[General description] This pair of two storey terrace houses has stone and wrought iron fenced front gardens. Further down the road on the corner of Grote Street is Dreyer's Metropolitan Hotel. The car in the foreground is a Maxwell owned by S.A.Farmers' Co-op Union, Adelaide. [General description] On the left is S.A. Motor Painters and A.S. Adamson Coach and Motor Trimmers. A hand barrow is propped in front of the building. In the centre an old buckboard truck is parked in front of a row of cottages. On the right is the premises of G J Wheeler (known as Cheapside House) which had its second storey added in 1909; previously it had been rented since 1888 from its owner John Follett. Another drapery business by a John Ford operated there between 1882 and 1888.[On back of photograph] 'Acre 321 / Morphett St., east side / Sep. 30, 1925 / Left side of Adamson's is 71 yards north of Grote Street. Right side of cottages is 39 1/2 yards north of Grote Street. Cottage next door to Adamson's demolished in 1925. For view of building subsequently erected see B 3230.'

St. Patrick's Church, Grote St

Left side is 133 yards east of West Terrace.' [General description] A priest can be seen standing inside the doorway of this newly completed church, seen in three quarter view. Outside a woman tends to a baby in a large perambulator. Designed by Woods Bagot the church was dedicated on 15 March, 1914. It was said to be inspired by the Church of the Holy Spirit in Florence and the design, based on a basilica, originally included a sacristy and dome. However a combination of insufficient funds and the outbreak of World War 1meant that the project remained unfinished.

[General description] East side of Morphett Street showing Cheapside House which houses G.J. Wheeler and Company Drapers and Milliners. It is situated on the corner of Andrew Street near Grote Street. [On back of photograph] Acre 312. Morphett Street, east side, 19th January 1926. The low brick building towards the left was erected in 1925. Compare with B 2992. Left side of new building is 20 1/2 yards north of Andrew Street. Wheeler's premises stand on the south corner of Andrew Street. For view of this building in 1958 see B 14030.

The photograph shows two semi detached cottages with a rendered front and a parapet. The building is next door to the CMM Goodwill Store in Pitt Street. See B 13946
