Map of the country explored by Stephen Hack and party north of Streaky Bay in 1857 for the S.A. Government, with exploration routes shown extending east to the southern section of Lake Gairdner and nearly as far as Lake Gilles. The map includes part of the coast line of Eyre Peninsula from Streaky Bay to Venus Bay, and 17 different areas (lots 4-20) coloured dark brown (obscuring any printed information within), showing the extent of pastoral runs. These are summarised in a table within the map area. Map by W.G. Harris, surveyor to the expedition. In a separate section above this is a map of the River Murray from above Murray Bridge down to the Lakes and Murray Mouth on Encounter Bay, in the Counties of Sturt and Russell. Land sections along the river from Murray Bridge to the Wellington area are shown, a few only numbered. Certified copy of plan of the township of Mitcham on the Brown Hill Creek, deposited by Messrs Divett, Currie and Roberts as No. 117 of 1855. Town allotments 1-102 with chapel reserve and Brown Hill Creek indicated. Maitland Street is named and three allotments have occupiers' names, Heritage (11), Rollings (41) and Lane (83). Ink with watercolour wash on vellum. Scale approx. 1 inch to 3 chains.

Chart of Port Adelaide, South Australia covering part of LeFevre's Peninsula and Torrens Island with land cover shown pictorially. Includes soundings for the coastal waters and Torrens River. Accompanying text is entitled 'Directions' and provides navigational directions to those sailing the Gulf of St. Vincent. The references under Remarks demonstrates the hopes of the Colony to provide anchorages for visiting vessels along the Torrens River and to provide access further up the River to the city of Adelaide. This chart was compiled from Colonel Light's survey with soundings by S. Hamilton, drawn by F.H. Burslem of the Survey Department and engraved by W. Moffitt, Sydney. Shows coast, river with soundings, and Torrens Island. Includes natural features. Dated 1839, but without detailed navigation notes that appear on 1840 version (map 120/3). Scale 2 inches to 1 mile.

This chart was compiled from Colonel Light's survey with soundings by S. Hamilton, drawn by F.H. Burslem of the Survey Department and engraved by W. Moffitt, Sydney. Shows coast, river with soundings, and Torrens Island. Includes natural features. Although dated 1839, map and detailed navigation notes on right hand edge date this version at 1840. Title of map at bottom right does not have its supporting kangaroos and emu figures as in map 120/2. Scale 2 inches to 1 mile. (On reverse side is printed the 1839 map without the text on left hand edge, another copy of map 120/2 in this series.) [Double sided map; previously C155 & C156].

Map of the River Murray from a point near the site of Monteith down to its entry into Lake Alexandrina, south of Wellington (called the Mouth of the Murray in the map's title) with land sections along the river, all numbered. Those marked 'S.A.C.' are the South Australian Company lands, 'J.M.' are John Morphett's, 'E.S.' are Edwards Stephens', and 'S.S.' for the Trustees of the late Samuel Stephens. The allotments in the townships of Wellington (surveyed in 1840 by John Morphett) and East Wellington are shown. The land west of the river is located in the Hundred of Brinkley. Plan showing 'the warehouses and sheds and the progressive state of wharfs' at Port Adelaide erected by the South Australian Company. A rudimentary wooden platform is shown on the end of the McLaren Wharf with the position of the lifting crane, a well and connecting bridge to the Government Reserve. An indication of the extent of vegetation surrounding an inlet in the area has been carefully executed by the artist. Signed by the architects Prescott and Hancock at right bottom corner, and dated January 5th 1840 at bottom left. 'No. 3' written at top left corner. Scale 1 & half inches to 50 feet. The land sections are all numbered and those held by the South Australian Company coloured in green. Areas within the town grids for Adelaide and North Adelaide have been coloured in red. The map gives a clear indication of the extent of vegetation in 1838 across the Adelaide district. Scale 2 inches to 1 mile. Hand drawn map based on the survey by Light, Finniss & Co., with their company's name and the date October 1838 written in ink, at bottom centre of map. (This map came from the London office of the South Australian Company. It appears to predate the maps of the same area published in London by John Arrowsmith from February 1839 onwards).
