He pulled his weight all day and is now quite quiet. Once handled this way they are usually not much bother again. Note action of grey who has [sic] just received. Small donks shown here are to be culled. Mousey greys are fair size. Snowy and shafter too small. 3 fours[?], 2 shafters, 3 leaders'.

This gutter had soft edges hence the pull. Is not the one mentioned in letter as it is no size. Get its level on wagon wheel. Feed is buck bush here'.

Taken on track to the top end. The formations in the background are known as reaphooks [Reaphook Hill?] and mark the start of some very rough country to the left'.

This country is some of the best I have seen, red flats that will grow anything. Recently had 6 in of rain in one fall. Cars & trucks bogged for days a few hundred yards from this cutting'.

Poles strung on a cable proved a successful floodgate. There are 2 main channels like this. While a big flood covers about five times the distance shown here. The creek enlarges further down. This is at outlet onto the homestead flats'.
