Flooded landscape at Narweena

Flooded landscape at Narweena

View of a flat, flooded landscape, with a utility moving away from the camera towards two buildings in the distance. [General description]. This is the front paddock of Colin's soldier-settlement block, Narweena, at Comung (Section 272, Hundred of Conmurra) between Kingston and Millicent. Utility is green Vauxhall Velox bought new by Colin in early 1954, his first ever new vehicle. Buildings are (left) implement shed and (right) house. The annual inundation was greatly reduced by drains K and L and the smaller drains that feed into them. [Information provided by donor.]

There is a stacked hayshed in the distance.

Jack White, SX 10926 (left) with a mate, both pictured in their Army uniforms [General description]. Jack lied about his age, and enlisted in 1941 when only 17 years of age. He was captured in Malaya, and as a prisoner of war spent three and a half years in Changi and working on the Burma railway. This photograph appears to have been taken after he was liberated. His health was permanently damaged by his imprisonment, and although he married and had five children, he died in 1958 at the age of 34 [information provided by niece].
