Summary

Jack White, SX 10926 (left) with a mate, both pictured in their Army uniforms [General description]. Jack lied about his age, and enlisted in 1941 when only 17 years of age. He was captured in Malaya, and as a prisoner of war spent three and a half years in Changi and working on the Burma railway. This photograph appears to have been taken after he was liberated. His health was permanently damaged by his imprisonment, and although he married and had five children, he died in 1958 at the age of 34 [information provided by niece].

Photograph from a selection of photographs from the White family album, taken by Colin Faulkner White whilst working on land clearing projects for the Land Development Board at Keppock, near Penola in the SE, for soldier settlements. Also included are a number of photographs from his childhood and army service.
