MARION BAY: The jetty at Marion Bay, South Australia which was used by the Victor Electric Plaster Mills for shipping gypsum. A fishing boat is moored in the foreground. According to a researcher, the three masted vessel in the foreground is the wooden cargo schooner "Coringle", built in Sydney in 1909. Between 1927 and 1939 the vessel was owned by the Austral Plaster Company, which used it for gypsum carrying. In this photo the vessel is fully loaded with gypsum, at Stenhouse Bay, for cartage to the plaster works in Port Adelaide. "Coringle" was taken over by the US Army Small Ships during WW2 and returned after the war under the ownership of R. Fricker and Co. and worked the SA coast until 1965.
