Milang 1936, looking towards the jetty. Sturt Memorial in foreground. Captain Sturt stumbled across Australia's largest inland lake and named it Alexandrina after the British Princess who would soon become Queen Victoria. The jetty was built in 1856 and was increased in length twice more. The Port of Milang declined in importance after the line to Morgan in 1878 took away the upper Murray trade

Photograph of a plaque which is attached to a stone cairn in Innamincka, South Australia. The cairn was erected in memory of Charles Sturt, Burke, Wills, Gray and King. Inscription on the plaque: "Captain Charles Sturt discovered Cooper Creek about fifteen miles west of this place on 13 October 1845 in his attempt to reach the centre of Australia. His work prompted further exploration resulting in the pastoral occupation of this locality and Western Queensland. Erected 1944."

Whaleboat on a waggon during the Sturt Murray River Exploration reenactment parade, Victoria Square, February 12, 1951. 'Adelaide Municipal Band and heavily bearded mounted police led the whaleboat mounted on a waggon through the city to the Sturt statue, where the members of the expedition were introduced to the official party. In brilliant colored shirts and military uniforms the bearded crew looked their parts.' [Source: 'Advertiser', 13 February 1951].

A collection of photographs relating to Glenelg and nearby suburbs in the south-west of Adelaide. Subjects include local sites and public events. A number of images are of popular past events, the Milk Carton Regatta and the Birdman Rally. According to brief paperwork attached to the photos (now removed), many of the photographs were published in the Guardian Messenger. Where more than date has been supplied, one of the dates may refer to the date of publication. See 'contents' for details of individual images.

Wanderers Hockey Club team photograph, in the 1940s. Players listed include Alf Cord, Brian Langsford, Bob Grant, Reg Dawson, Alan Zanke, and ? King. The Wanderers were a team that played between 1925 and 1949, at which time they merged with Westbourne Park, and Parkside, to form Sturt. Sturt then merged with Aroha in 1980 to form the Adelaide Hockey Club.
