[Not sure about identification of Beevor - compare with B 23143.]

Man on right of middle row is Robert Conway Parrott who enlisted in the AIF on 18 February 1918. Prior to this he was a 'militia' NCO working at Mitcham Camp doing training. This photo appeared in 'The Observer', Saturday 10 June 1916, page 24, over the caption 'Staff Sergeants-Major, Mitcham Camp'.

The officer in the front row, second from left, is Renfrey Gershom Burnard, who enlisted 14/8/1916 and embarked for overseas on 19 February 1917, which puts the date of this photograph within that time frame. [A photo featuring some of the men appeared in 'The Chronicle', Saturday 13 January 1917, page 30 under the heading 'November reinforcements for the A.M.C.; another appeared in the same paper the following week (Saturday 27 January 1917, page 28) under the heading 'Men of the A.M.C.' The following have been identified in the front row: Colonel Goghill second from left (see also PRG 280/1/8/436]; Connor third from right; F.M. Lorenzo 8th from right; Colonel Dean 9th from right; Colonel F.J.D. Darvall 10th from right; and T. Hancock 11th from right. The man fifth from right also appears in PRG 280/1/42/114 and the man 6th from right also appears in PRG 280/1/39/182. A researcher has suggested that the small group that appears in PRG 280/1/42/114 and this photo appear to have been taken at the same time at the Jubilee (ie Exhibition) Oval during the later years of WWI. It is possible that the small group is the local staff and the large includes staff from HQ at Keswick.

A group of five Australian army officers photographed at an army camp; they are possibly members of the Medical Corps as indicated by Searcy's comment 'Good sawbones'. According to a researcher, the man standing left rear is Doctor Harry Nott, RMO (who was with the 10th Battalion AIF), with W. R. Cavenagh-Mainwaring to his left (assigned to the 3rd Light Horse). Both units were at the Morphettville Camp in 1914. The man seated in the centre is Frederick Goldsmith, surgeon (also appears in PRG 280/1/26/104). The three seated in the front row are all wearing pre-war peak caps (shiny leather visors) suggesting they are or were in the militia pre-war - so the the other two may have been with Goldsmith in the 3rd Field Ambulance ie Fry and Moodie.
