Connor, seated on the far right of the photo.The occasion was the presentation of 'the Christmas gift of Her Royal Highness the Princess Mary to the men of the 74th Infantry who were actually on military duty on December 25, 1914, as a momento for services rendered to His Majesty the King. The gift consisted of an ornate gilt box, in which was a neat cartridge-case pencil and the message, "With best wishes for a victorious new year, from the Princess Mary and friends at home" ' (piles of the boxes can be seen on the table). Other photos from this event were published in 'The Critic', Wednesday 12 January 1916, page 4; an article about it appeared in 'The Journal', Saturday 18 March 1916, page 2.

Returned soldiers' cottage display building
Returned soldiers' cottage constructed for the Australian Town Planning and Housing Conference and Exhibition held in Adelaide 17-24 October 1917. The cottage was erected on the Jubilee Oval. South Australian architects submitted entries in a design competition for the cottage. It was won by Albert S. Conrad and Frank H. Conrad.
