This is actually the right half of a larger photo which was published in 'The Observer', 21 August 1915, page 17, under the heading 'Two thousand recruits', and with the caption 'This panorama picture was taken at Jubilee Oval, which is now being used entirely for military purposes, all sport and the Spring Show having had to give way to the great cause'. Standing in front are (from left): Lieut. A.R. Creswick (Camp Orderly Officer); Lieut. C.C. Tucker (Adjutant); unknown; Capt. J.R. Borrow (second in command, on horse); unknown.

New army recruits who are still wearing their civilian clothes sitting on a bank at Jubilee Oval, Adelaide, where they have been taken for their initial training for service in World War I. For related photos see PRG 280/1/39/33, PRG 280/1/9/151, PRG 280/1/17/132 and PRG 280/1/9/120.
Australian military staff instructors
A large group of Australian military officers, described as the instructional staff of the Federal City Forces; most names not known. The following have been identified in the front row: Colonel Goghill second from left (see also PRG 280/1/8/436]; Connor third from right; F.M. Lorenzo 8th from right; Colonel Dean 9th from right; Colonel F.J.D. Darvall 10th from right; and T. Hancock 11th from right. The man fifth from right also appears in PRG 280/1/42/114 and the man 6th from right also appears in PRG 280/1/39/182. A researcher has suggested that the small group that appears in PRG 280/1/42/114 and this photo appear to have been taken at the same time at the Jubilee (ie Exhibition) Oval during the later years of WWI. It is possible that the small group is the local staff and the large includes staff from HQ at Keswick.
