Summary

New army recruits standing in lines on Jubilee Oval behind a group of regular army officers. This is actually the right half of a larger photo which was published in 'The Observer', 21 August 1915, page 17, under the heading 'Two thousand recruits', and with the caption 'This panorama picture was taken at Jubilee Oval, which is now being used entirely for military purposes, all sport and the Spring Show having had to give way to the great cause'. Standing in front are (from left): Lieut. A.R. Creswick (Camp Orderly Officer); Lieut. C.C. Tucker (Adjutant); unknown; Capt. J.R. Borrow (second in command, on horse); unknown.

Historical information

The same officers appear in a number of photos. The officer standing on the left in PRG 280/1/9/120 is the same man seated on left in PRG 280/1/3/285; the officer on the horse in PRG 280/1/9/120 also appears in the front row, second from left in PRG 280/1/3/285; in PRG 280/1/3/285 the man in the front row, third from left, is Colonel Hancock, who also appears in PRG 280/1/9/80; and the officer standing second from left in PRG 280/1/9/120 also appears in PRG 280/1/3/285 (3rd from left in back row).
