A researcher has suggested that this may be Private James Melville Bagshaw, No. 2076 from York Town, South Australia, enlisted on 27 March 1916 with the 5th Pioneer Battalion, Reinforcement 3, and embarked from Adelaide on board the HMAT 'Seang Bee' on 13 July 1916, returning to Australia on 1 August 1919.

No. 712 Private William Vigar (left) and J. Edwards, 1st Australian Imperial Force. According to a researcher, this is possibly Benjamin John Edwards, service no - 1281. Another researcher provided te following information: 'Crossed axe insignia on "J. Edwards" indicates someone from a Pioneer Battalion. Ammunition bandolier and leather leggings indicate a Light Horse or similar. If his name is J. Edwards it is possibly "John EDWARDS", 12287, enlisted in A.I.F. - Field Ambulance, transferred to A.F.C. as a Medical Orderly then to a Rigger (Air Mechanic). The researcher acknowledges that this is supposition until the insignia/uniforms for these roles can be confirmed.
