No. 712 Private William Vigar (left) and J. Edwards, 1st Australian Imperial Force. According to a researcher, this is possibly Benjamin John Edwards, service no - 1281. Another researcher provided te following information: 'Crossed axe insignia on "J. Edwards" indicates someone from a Pioneer Battalion. Ammunition bandolier and leather leggings indicate a Light Horse or similar. If his name is J. Edwards it is possibly "John EDWARDS", 12287, enlisted in A.I.F. - Field Ambulance, transferred to A.F.C. as a Medical Orderly then to a Rigger (Air Mechanic). The researcher acknowledges that this is supposition until the insignia/uniforms for these roles can be confirmed.
