Ammunition bandolier and leather leggings indicate a Light Horse or similar. If his name is J. Edwards it is possibly "John EDWARDS", 12287, enlisted in A.I.F. - Field Ambulance, transferred to A.F.C. as a Medical Orderly then to a Rigger (Air Mechanic). The researcher acknowledges that this is supposition until the insignia/uniforms for these roles can be confirmed.

A researcher has suggested that one of the soldiers may be No.3260 Private William Vincent Caffrey, enlisted 20 July 1915 aged 24, served with the 10th Battalion, 11th Reinforcement, embarked from Adelaide on board the HMAT A24 'Benalla' on 27 October 1915, returned to Australia 11 May 1916.
