Historical information

Lieutenant Ross Wilkinson was born at North Adelaide, South Australia, on 17 March 1893. A student of St. Peter's College he applied for a Commission in the 1st Australian Imperial Force on 10 February 1915. He embarked with the 5th Reinforcements of the 9th Light Horse Regiment at Adelaide on 2 June 1915. He saw service at Gallipoli and in Egypt, Palestine and Syria, being promoted to Captain on 5 April 1917. He was awarded the Order of the Nile, 4th Class, by the Sultan of Egypt, and was mentioned in despatches for services rendered during the period 19 September 1918 to 31 January 1919. He returned to Australia in 1920 and married Lois Linsley on 22 July 1936 in Queensland. He died in New South Wales in 1978.
