Adelaide Magistrates Court building, south side of Angas Street, Adelaide. It is one of the oldest public buildings in Adelaide, completed in February, 1851. The left side of the building is 50 yards east of King William Street and its right side is 8 yards east of King William Street. This building was formerly the Supreme Court of South Australia until 1873, then until 1891 the Local and Insolvency Courts and thereafter the Police court.

[General description] Situated on the south eastern side of Victoria Square this is one of Adelaide's oldest buildings, starting out as the Supreme Court but in 1873 becoming the Local and Insolvency Court, later to become the Police Court, next as it is now known as the Magistrate's Court. A few sparse trees, mostly eucalypts stand near the building. [On front of photograph] 'Local Court / c. 1877'.

King William Street, Police Court, March 31st 1933, right side of court is 53 yards south of Angas Street. The two storey Court Building is set on the corner of Angas Street and King William Street on the corner of Victoria Square. Tall trees are shading the building from the westerly sun.

Angas Street, south side, showing Old Supreme Court building. This building with its pure Doric portico is constructed from sandstone. It was built between 1847 and 1850. Richard Lambeth was the architect and RG Bowen the builder. Until 1873 it was used as the Supreme Court, then until 1891 used for the Local and Insolvency Courts and then for the Police Force.

King William Street, Adelaide, in April 1912, featuring Frank North's Crown & Sceptre Hotel. Hotel staff look out from the balcony. [The man in the suit may be the proprietor.] For some time in the past this hotel supplied meals for those detained at the Police watch-house in Angas street. National Bank building and building on the north east corner of King William and Carrington Streets in the process of renovation following a fire on 17 August 1975. At the time of the fire the building had housed the Olde King's Music Hall. King William Street frontage is 15.5 metres and Carrington Street frontage is 32 metres. The Angas Street police headquarters building is visible behind the bank. 11 May 1984.

[General description] There is a queue of men outside the Police Station, a stone building with heavy arched verandah pillars. Some of the men have bicycles. Signs over the entrance of the building say 'S.A.R. Transport Workers Registration Office' and 'Navigation and Lighthouse Service'. North Terrace, south side, 12 November 1918. Celebration crowds on the day after Armitice Day. This is North Terrace looking west from North Terrace towards the Railway Station. Every vantage point is taken and a mass of hats, sun shades and police on horseback can be seen.

Crucial factors are the existence of the Adelaide Club (finished 1865 or 1866) and the absence of the stables erected for the Duke of Edinburgh in 1867. Interesting to note the wide open spaces between the sparsely placed buildings.

Adelaide Oval during the Duke of York's visit in 1901. Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and York (later King George and Queen Mary) visited Adelaide in 1901. This photograph shows the couple being greeted at the parade in their honour at the Adelaide Oval. Ranks of soldiers, band, mounted police can be seen at the ceremony.

Adelaide Battery of Artillery, taken on the old Parade Ground, on the site of the South Australiam Museum. The building on the right is the old Ordnance Store, and that on the left the Police Barracks. Colonel L.B. Matthews (on horse) commanded the Battery. The officers from L -R are Lieut J.L.R. Fiveash, Capt. W.D. Claxton, and Lieut. B. Solomon. The battery wore the imposing blue Garibaldi jackets with scarlet facing and stripes. The guns are six-pounders. The Battery practised at Glenelg and fired from the south side of the jetty into the sea at a target placed on Oyster Point. Other members of the Battery included Sgt. C. Wells, Sgt. Charles White of Fulham, Cpl. Thomas Barnett, Gunner Frederick W. Botting of the Lands Office is the tall figure on the extreme right of the picture, Gunner Daniel Lawrence and Gunner J. N. Perry.

[General description] This stone building, with its Dutch gables and slate roof, was originally part of the Police Barracks and was granted to the Destitute Board in April 1851. Weeds growing in the gravel drive in front of the building give a desolate feel to the image.

[General description] A large crowd is in attendance at the opening of the Exhibition Building, designed by architects Withall and Wells, to house the Exhibition in celebration of Queen Victoria's Jubilee in 1887. Police greys can be seen on duty. Part of the eastern Annex, which contained a concert hall, can be seen on the right. [General description] This view, criss-crossed by utility wires, shows that there is a function on at Government House where the flag flies proudly at the flagstaff. A small crowd has assembled at the gates where two Police Greys stand at attention. Horse drawn vehicles appear in the foreground.
