Summary

[On back of photograph] 'April 1918 / Portion of Destitute Asylum, Adelaide / For plan showing site and for notes on history see A 419 / For photograph of lean-to shelter erected on front of the buildings in 1935, by the Kintore Avenue Parking Station, see B 7462.' [General description] This stone building, with its Dutch gables and slate roof, was originally part of the Police Barracks and was granted to the Destitute Board in April 1851. Weeds growing in the gravel drive in front of the building give a desolate feel to the image.
