Photograph of three men and a lady having a cup of tea on 9th July 1965 at Mount Gambier airport. They are John Friedrichs, Tony Casadio (Midshipman, RAN), Mrs Casadio and Errol Kavanagh (Lt.RAN). The photograph was taken after a navigation training exercise from Pt Cook in Victoria to Mt Gambier. The 3 young men all attended Marist Brothers College in Mt Gambier, all friends from school. They all became pilots, Errol and Tony were members of the Fleet Air Arm, and John Friedrichs joined the RAAF. Sadly, all these men were killed while flying. Tony Casadio died in Vietnam, on August 21st 1968 [aged 22] whilst on a combat mission. Errol Kavanagh served for many years in the Fleet Air Arm and was killed in an air accident when flying in the Canberra air show as a civilian. John Friedrichs was killed during a training exercise whilst serving in the RAAF. He was a member of the Roulettes. Information provided by Virginia Jacobs].
