'The Gulf trip - 6 pounds for 6 days' saw the ship visit Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Port Hughes as well as Port Germein, Wallaroo and possibly Whyalla. An album and scrapbook initially kept by Jane McColl, daughter of James Ramsay McColl, showing the family and family home 'Largs Villa' at Woodville, her father and his employees in the marine plumbing business at Port Adelaide, and her brothers and cousins, some of whom found work on coastal steamers around Australia, including ports in Queensland, Sydney, Albany and Wyndham in Western Australia. The album was lent for copying and the State Library does not hold the original.

Portraits of 11 men appointed by the Moonta and Wallaroo miners and tradesmen to go to Adelaide and interview the directors during the strike of 1874. John Prisk, John Anthony, John Uren and Thomas Rodda represented the miners; L.L.Furner and N.Thomas represented the Moonta tradesmen; Martin Edwards and J.Visick represented the Wallaroo miners; and G.W.Gurner, G.N.Birks and Joseph Nottle represented the tradesmen of Kadina. Compare with B 9301. The premises of National Radio Company can be seen in Grote Street opposite the junction with Moonta Street.

Shipboard life depicted through a pen, ink, and watercolour drawing by Wentworth Marmaduke Hardy, who was a draughtsman on the Goyder expedition from South Australia to the Northern Territory 1869-70. The scene, entitled 'Rush On! for Dinner' Outward-bound Ship 'Moonta', shows nine men drawn in a naive style, hurrying to the entrance of the galley at dinner-time on board the 'Moonta', which was the barque that was used for the sea voyage. Signed and dated, bottom right corner.

Church of St. Francis of Assisi

Catholic Church of St. Francis of Assisi, Moonta is a solid limestone building with an iron roof. The foundation stone was laid by Bishop Shiel in 1869 and the church was opened later that same year. The photograph shows a tall steeple located where the lean-to vestry now stands.
