[General description] This small cottage appears to have been updated some years earlier with pillars and low brick wall replacing an earlier front verandah. See B 14277 for its neighbour on the other side of the lane (on the right). [On back of photograph] 'Moonta Street, west side, 24 December 1959, left side of cottage is 42 yards north of Gouger Street, frontage is 8 yards.

A studio photograph (carte de visite albumen print) of a boy posing with a cricket bat and ball, dating to the late 1860s. There is no studio imprint, but the painted backdrop is identical to that of William Bentley's Moonta studio (see p.33 in 'A century in focus : South Australian photography 1840s-1940s', edited by Julie Robinson and Maria Zagala, Adelaide : Art Gallery of South Australia, 2007).

The British submarine 'Trump' arriving at No. 1 berth, Port Adelaide, which was built by Vickers Armstrong, Barrow and launched on 25 March 1944, and was mostly attached to the 4th Submarine division based in Australia. A collection of 329 photographs of people, events and places on the Eyre Peninsula and west coast of South Australia. Places include Tallala Well, Thevenard, Wirrulla, Poochera, Minnipa, Wudinna, Mount Wedge, Haslam, Carawa, Laura Bay, Perlubie, Venus Bay, Elliston, Coulta, Tod River, Poonindie, Tumby Bay, Verran, Cleve, Arno Bay, Cowell, Kimba, Whyalla, Penong, Iron Knob. The album contains photographs which document the Back to Port Lincoln Carnival celebrations, 7-14 February 1930; photographs taken at Ceduna of the Western Australian Centenary Air Race 1929 (also known as the East- West Air Race); the refuelling stop at Ceduna of the inaugural flight of Air Mail services between Adelaide and Perth 1929 and the 130th Anniversary of the Landing of Matthew Flinders at Boston Bay, 26 February 1932. A number of sailing ships and motor vessels visiting Boston Bay between 1929 and 1933 were photographed, among them Melbourne, Olive Bank, Hougomont, Viking, Phasianella, Minnipa, King Stephen, Moonta, Rhymney, L'Avenir, Grootekerk and the new aircraft carrier HMAS Albatross which was first commissioned in 1929. The photographs include some interesting images of farming and transportation on the far west coast of South Australia, and show glimpses of the lives of Aboriginal people at that time, at Poonindie Mission, Koonibba Mission, Fowler's Bay and Ceduna region. The photographs in this collection were taken by E. F. Derbyshire during the years 1929-1933, when he was a commercial traveller for Clarkson Limited of Adelaide, suppliers of builders' tools and hardware.
