Summary

Shipboard life depicted through a pen, ink, and watercolour drawing by Wentworth Marmaduke Hardy, who was a draughtsman on the Goyder expedition from South Australia to the Northern Territory 1869-70. The scene, entitled 'Rush On! for Dinner' Outward-bound Ship 'Moonta', shows nine men drawn in a naive style, hurrying to the entrance of the galley at dinner-time on board the 'Moonta', which was the barque that was used for the sea voyage. Signed and dated, bottom right corner.

Also known as William Marmaduke Hardy, the artist was born 20 November 1846 in Auckland, New Zealand. He died on 20 August 1919 in Adelaide although death records suggest he died aged 71.
