A researcher notes that 'this photo is of a meeting of THE Executive Council of Tasmania, not AN executive council. It is the ultimate legal authority in Tasmania, as an advisory body to the Govenor in his role as representative of the Crown. Legislation is presented to the Govenor at a meeting of the Council for his signature as the final step in making it law. The only individual who can be positively identified is the then Premier, Walter Lee, third from the left.'

Captain Richard Crozier

Portrait of Captain Richard Crozier, RN, taken by T.R. Williams, 236 Regent Street, London. In April 1837 Captain Richard Crozier R.N. aboard the Cruizer-class HMS Victor anchored in the lee of Granite Island, on the return leg of a voyage from India to Australia via Sydney and Adelaide. His journal (PRG 185) records that he named the place 'Victor Harbour'. Crozier rose to the level of Rear-Admiral in the British Navy. He was educated at the Royal Naval College, entering the navy in 1815 aged 12. He married Julia Stone of a wealthy banking family. The front is inscribed 'V. Admiral R. Crozier'; on the back with 'R[ea]r Admiral R. Crozier May 27 1864, V. Admiral 24th April /65'.
