Ridley Memorial gates, Wayville show grounds

Entrance gates to the show grounds, Wayville. These gates erected in 1933 commemorated John Ridley, the inventor of the Ridley Stripper. This harvesting machine stripped the heads of grain with the threshing done by a separate machine.

Funeral of warrant - officer Charles Wood. The cortege can be seen leaving the Keswick Barracks for the AIF Cemetery , West Terrace. The casket is on the gun carriage in the middle of the procession which is headed by soldiers with reversed rifles. The escort party is followed by drummers with muffled drums beating to keep step, the mounted escort, casket on gun carriage followed by members from the platoon. The Keswick Barracks are in the background of this photograph. Warrant Officer Charles Wood from Tailem Bend died while being brought to Adelaide for treatment. He served in the war with 18th Battery.

Men of the 27th Battalion marching in the Anzac Day procession in King William Street. Published in the Chronicle, 30 April 1936, p. 34 with the caption 'Returned men of the 27th Battalion marching through Adelaide. They bore out the truth of the saying, "once a soldier, always a soldier," for their firm step and swinging gait showed they had not forgotten the training of twenty odd years ago.' A researcher has identified the three officers at the front as (from left) James C.F. Slane (2nd CO of 27th Battalion), Percy G. Bice and Stanley S. Woods.

Remount Section was the body responsible for the purchase and training of horses. The verandah posts on the South Australian Hotel can be seen in the background.

Originally the Brookman Building was a three storied building with an oriel window projecting one storey higher ans forming a small tower. The building was built as a result of success at the goldfields in Western Australia.

This photo appeared in 'The Advertiser' Monday 21 September 1914, page 9: 'The above picture, taken from an elevated position, shows the 3rd Light Horse Regiment drawn up in line of troop on the Morphettville Racecourse after the Governor had presented the colours. Lieutenant-Colonel Rowell, I.O.C. shown in the immediate foreground with Major Fulton who is second in command. A little to the left behind the O.C. the Transport and Machine Gun Sections attached to the Regiment are depicted on the right and left flank of the troops'. See PRG 280/1/29/73 for another photo taken just seconds apart from this one.
