Old gum tree, Glenelg. The sign on the bent old tree says "On this spot on the 28th December 1836 The Colony of South Australia proclaimed a British Dependency". The tree on a small block is enclosed on all sides by a wooden fence. A thatched building is standing on the next door plot. Fields and a few buildings can be seen in the background.

Black and white photograph of an oil painting sketch by Col. William Light of the first landing place at Glenelg made by Colonel Light and the first European colonists to South Australia. The view shows the Glenelg seashore with scrub behind the sand dunes and the Mount Lofty Ranges in the distance. Tents, huts, and a flagstaff have been erected in a clearing behind the dunes. Men are unloading stores from a ship's lighter. Original artwork held at the S.A. Museum.

"Woodlands", Partridge Street, Glenelg, donated by the family of the late Richard Smith, for a Church of England Grammar School. (See Observer, February 18, 1922). - this photograph was used in the Philadelphia Exhibition of 1876. This photograph of Glenelg shows a long jetty with a beacon at the end. A wide expanse of sand runs down to a calm sea. In the foreground the beach is covered with dried seaweed. Two small boys are paddling in the water. Sand hills stretch south along the seashore. Only a few buildings can be seen at the beginning of the jetty.
