Glenelg

Women and children (one of the little boys is wearing a fez) are standing outside the buildings. This photograph shows good detail of the fashion in 1884.


Glenelg
Old Bridge over Patawalonga Creek, Glenelg. Thomas King MP advocated damming the Patawalonga in 1876. King represented Sturt in the South Australian House of Assembly from 1876 to 1882. The dam was constructed in 1885 and the bridge connecting Glenelg North with Glenelg was called the King Street Bridge. The wooden bridge was replaced in 1956 by a concrete bridge which was also later replaced


Glenelg
Moseley Street, Glenelg. Henry Jackson Moseley was an early councillor who promoted the building of a railway line to Glenelg. He came to South Australia in 1836 at the age of 17 on board "Tam O Shanter". He erected the first Congregational Church and St Peter's Church at Glenelg. The photograph shows church buildings and grand two storey houses built along Moseley Street
