This building was erected on a vacant site (according to spokesman of Southcotts who originally erected the first built portion). The 14.25 yards of frontage on the right side were erected about 1942, and the 10 yards on the left were erected in 1948

Complete frontage to left side of the garage, marked with an 'x' is 33 yards. For a view of this hotel in 1939 see B 8169. There has been a hotel on this site since 1849. This building, along with the adjacent terrace houses, date from 1877. The hotel has a distinctive weather vane and stained glass windows

[General description] This is a classic Californian Bungalow style house of the period featuring a wide half timbered gable across its enclosed front verandah. It has its name, "Dunnottar" on its fascia board above the entrance. Note the large monkey puzzle tree on the left. East Terrace corner of Gilles Street

East Terrace, south corner of Gilles Street. St Corantyn is linked to some renowned Adelaide Citizens. It was built for Charles Atkins Hornabrook, a son of John Hornabrook who arrived in the colony in 1838. This mansion has a strong Gothic influence with its pointed windows edged with pillars and its castellated chimneys. Originally named Eotherm, it was built in 1891 for Charles Hornabrook who made his fortune as the licensee of the York Hotel in Rundle Street. In 1928 Sir John Lavington Bonython and his family moved into the house which he renamed St Corantyn.

[General description] Various characters appear in this street scene in the village of North Adelaide. Open fields are seen in the background and the roads are unmade. A coachman drives a smart carriage and pair of horses through the mud whilst the lady passengers hold up their parasols. In the centre of the view a team of four bullocks stands with a loaded cart. [On back of photograph] 'Acres 710-711 / Kermode Street, North Adelaide. Looking south east. (The long building with the Inn sign in front is the Queen's Head Hotel.) Reproduction of a sketch by S.T.
