Jim Bell, John Jukes, Peter Donegan at Mendil Beach, Darwin on Tuesday 17 January 1939, the day before accident L14H VH-ABI, when the Koranga, Lockheed Super Electra aircraft left Darwin for Adelaide via Katherine and Alice Springs, with 1 passenger and 700lb of airmail. The aircraft attempted to takeoff from Katherine airport at 7.50 am but failed to gain altitude and crashed in the Katherine River, killing all four on board. They were Captain John Jukes, Captain Cecil Clarke, First Officer Peter Donegan, and passenger Alexander McDonald.
