In the background, the enclosed balcony of Serv-Wel grocery store can be seen on the left, with the enclosed balcony of Avondale Milk Bar next to it. The Central Guest House balcony, Ruffles Frock Shop, and Tudor Guest House verandah in the background on the right. All three were demolished around 1985.

Destroyers at Victor Harbor seen from Granite island with a jetty in the foreground, looking east. According to a researcher, the photograph was taken on 3rd September 1912 and documents the delivery trip from the UK of HMAS's Warrego, Parramatta and Yarra. Another researcher has suggested that the Paramatta and Yarra arrived in 1913.

View of Granite Island from the Victor Harbor jetty. Shallow waters prevented ships from docking close to shore, making the passage of goods very difficult. A broad gauge railway track, seen here, was laid on the causeway to make the transportation of these goods possible. In 1894, the first double deck horse drawn passenger tram carried tourists from Victor Harbor to Granite Island.

One Clydesdale horse is pulling twelve men on the tram over the Causeway between Victor Harbor and Granite Island. From 1900 the horse drawn tramway was operated by George and Frank Honeyman on behalf of the South Australian Railways.

[General description] Victor Harbor House is a two storey stone building with wide verandahs and balconies. It was the first stone house in the township, built in 1863 as a boarding house for workers at the Port. It became Victor Harbor Hotel in 1927 when it was purchased by Mr. A.A. Edwards, M.P. who had the building renovated and extended, the cost being estimated at 25,000 pounds. The licence was transferred from the Finnis Vale Hotel at Second Valley.

Newland Memorial Church

Newland Memorial Church

Newland Memorial Congregational Church, Victor Harbor. This original church was built in 1868 and was named in honour of the Reverend Ridgeway Newland who arrived in Encounter Bay with 34 settlers. After a fatal carriage accident Reverend Ridgeway Newland was buried beneath the pulpit in his chapel. His remains were later removed to the Victor Harbor cemetery. A new church was built in 1927 and the old church became the church hall.

Two Aboriginal men playing cricket at Victor Harbor: Harry Hewitt is the batsman, he was born in about 1864 and married Mary Unaipon at Point McLeay on 18 February 1884. He died at Milang on 23 January 1907; the wicket keeper's surname is Wagner.
