[General description] This view shows Brougham Place houses silhouetted against the sky with the road in the foreground. On the right is a large two storey gentleman's residence with a portico and bay window, the windows having wooden shutters. The next two dwellings along are modest single storey cottages. Strangways Terrace. Left side of house is 75 yards east of the western boundary of acre 756. Frontage: 17 yards. This two storey bluestone house has a bow window to one side of the frontdoor. The house is named Parramatta Villa and has an established front garden filled with shrubs and bushes. It was built in 1871, designed in the Victorian Period by architects Rowland Rees. GH Catchlove also employed these architects to build another large house next door at number 55 Strangways Terrace. All the embellishments were made of wood. The carved wooden capitals in the form of bunches of grapes to the verandah and balcony posts are unique. The original owner, George Henry Catchlove arrived in Adelaide on board the "Hooghly" in 1839 with his widowed father. Together with other syndicate members GH Catchlove owned property in what is now Eden Hills.

The premises of Philip LeCornu's Furniture Warehouse, Cabinet Maker and Undertaker, Corner of O'Connell Street, east side, and Archer Street, North Adelaide. In 1854 Phillip Le Cornu migrated to South Australia from Jersey in the Channel Islands.In 1861 he leased a small shop and stable in North Adelaide and started to produce furniture and a sideline undertaking business. The photograph shows a two storey building next to two single storey ones which are displaying furniture in every possible position - footpaths, balcony and under verandahs. Two ornate baby carriages can also be seen among the furniture.

Tynte Street, north side, Baptist Church which was opened in 1870. The building is Venetian in style and seated 600 people all with a clear view of the preacher. Members of the congregation were known for their free thinking, liberalism and welcomed everyone no matter what denomination. In 1876 the church acquired its first organ which was the largest pipe organ in the state and was equipped with mains water driven bellows.

Tynte Street, north side, Public School, far side of school is 40 yards west of Margaret Street and frontage is 48 yards. The school was founded in 1877 and was one of the oldest schools in South Australia.

[General description] Looking south along unsealed O'Connell Street with shops on either side. On the right William Pullin's butcher shop is next to Springett's Grocery store. Brougham Place, east side, right side of the house is 58 yards south of Stanley Street and frontage is 15 yards. The building shown is the North Adelaide Congregational Church Parsonage. The church itself grandly stands on the hill above North Adelaide and was erected between 1860 and 1872. The photograph shows a two storey stone building with a balcony over the portico. A return verandah covers part of the downstair floor. A lady can be seen standing in the driveway to the house. A lower storey can be seen under the house to the right.

The Congregational Church on the south eastern corner of Stanley Street and Brougham Place. The baroque church on the hill was begun in 1860 and was finished in 1872. The tower was added in 1872 and large and extensive buildings were added at the rear of the church in approximately 1877. It is similar to St Phillip's Church in Birmingham which was completed in 1715.

Adelaide Parklands looking east from East Terrace from a point about 60 yards north of Wakefield Street. The area in the foreground has been planted with young olive trees. This olive grove was planted in 1870. In 1971 George McEwin, founder of Glen Ewin Jam factory, urged the Adelaide Council to graft the large number of olive trees on the East Park Lands, implying the seedlings were planted the previous year or earlier. This photograph shows paths criss crossing the Parklands between East Terrace and Dequetteville Terrace and the Adelaide hills looming in the distance.

[General description] This view of the river and bridge features a number of rowboats moored at its banks. The two nearest boats are named the'Ripple" and the 'Stella", and the name A. Adelaide Bridge, King William Road, looking south. This iron bridge was opened in 1856, widened in 1877 and converted to a two lane bridge in 1884. A large Coat of Arms adorns the railings over the river. King William Road can be seen travelling south to North Terrace and the Post Office Tower is in the background.

City Bridge, King William Road was completed in 1877. It consisted of 200 tons of wrought-iron plate girders manufactured in England. The roadway consisted of corrugated iron plates.

City Bridge, King William Road was built in 1877 and was the second bridge built in this spot. However it was considered out of date by 1920 when a new bridge was constructed which was the same width as King William Road, thus preventing the congested bottleneck which had occurred with the introduction of trams.
