Summary

This two storey bluestone house has a bow window to one side of the frontdoor. The house is named Parramatta Villa and has an established front garden filled with shrubs and bushes. It was built in 1871, designed in the Victorian Period by architects Rowland Rees. GH Catchlove also employed these architects to build another large house next door at number 55 Strangways Terrace. All the embellishments were made of wood. The carved wooden capitals in the form of bunches of grapes to the verandah and balcony posts are unique. The original owner, George Henry Catchlove arrived in Adelaide on board the "Hooghly" in 1839 with his widowed father. Together with other syndicate members GH Catchlove owned property in what is now Eden Hills. See also B 10762.
