Port Adelaide; in the centre is Prince's Wharf, Hart's Mill, and Mundy Street ferry steps. Notes on the back of photograph from Captain Lee say "The barquentine alongside the wharf, inside the ketch drying sails, is the "Ocean Ranger". The stern of the vessel on the extreme right is that of the barque "Lintrathen".

Note on the back of the photograph from Captain Lee says " left to right - the ship, stern on with the painted ports is the "Hesperus". The ship with painted ports alongside the wharf, bow on is the "City of Paris" and the barque outside the "City of Paris "is the "Coorong". The fourth vessel from the left is the brigantine "Odalisk". The fifth vessel shown on the extreme right is not known".

Jervois Bridge, Port Adelaide, in course of construction ; sailing ship "Joliba" is alongside the wharf. The bridge opened in 1878. A note on the back of the photograph says "Australia Club House Hotel was occupied by Reid in 1877"

Robinson Swing Bridge, Port Adelaide; opened in 1883. A note on the back of the photograph says "Heming had Wharf Hotel from 1882-1887". The bridge crosses the waterway known as the South Australian Company's Basin which leads into the Port River. The Robinson Bridge replaced the Tam O'Shanter fixed Bridge. In 1880 the bridge's opening was found to be too small so a new bridge was shipped from Derby, England. The new bridge was named after the Governor of South Australia. It could be swung open by two men. It was closed in 1935

Robinson Bridge, Port Adelaide. This swing bridge was built from steelwork shipped from England and was opened at Dock 1 in October 1883. The pivot bridge was 129 feet long and 36 feet wide. It had footpaths on either side. The bridge could be opened by two people using a hand lever. Rails passed over the bridge to allow freight access to the wharves.

[General description] A small boat laden with timber is in the foreground of this view across water to distant waterside buildings and stores at the Port Augusta jetty. A large sailing vessel can be seen at the end of the jetty; other smaller craft are moored nearby. On the extreme left, behind a beached vessel is P.R.Warren's store.

[General description] This rail line leads the eye out to the end of the jetty where a coastal steamer is moored. The line is for hand trucks which are used to move cargo from the store to the ships. A group of men are gathered inside a half finished structure on the right where they appear to be having refreshments. Perhaps this is the opening of this jetty, privately built by Mr. Luke Cullen in 1877. On the left there is a brush fence, probably to prevent sand drifting across from the dunes.

Puttappa Gap Railway Bridge in the Flinders Ranges between Beltana and Leigh Creek. In the photograph the railway track can be seen curving around a bend over a causeway. A man on a camel can be seen under the bridge. The line disappears via a narrow cutting through the rocky hillside

Signal Station, Semaphore. The Pilot is seated at the end of the wall & Signalman William Uden is leaning on the post. In the enclosure is the old wooden room in which the pilots on night duty slept. The two storey house was owned by Richard Jagoe, the shipping reporter. The Time Ball tower on the extreme left was completed by December 1874. The time service commenced on 2nd August, 1875. See research note 545. This view was reproduced in the 'Observer', 27th December, 1924, also on the 21st May, 1904 (wrongly dated 1860s).
