[General description] "St. Clair' is a two storey house, seen from its driveway and partially obscured by trees. It was built by Mr. S.R. Clarke in 1850 in the English country house style and was enlarged considerably over time. [General description] The Fletcher family, new owners of 'The Brocas' pose in front of the house and on the balcony. The verandah and balcony have now been added to the further side of the house (1873). (See B 10655) Henry Cruikshank Fletcher, also a Port Adelaide shipping identity who owned Fletcher's Slipyard lived here for 38 years until his death in 1912. [General description] A portrait of Sir William Ernest George Archibald Weigall, 1874-1952, 18th Governor of South Australia. The face and upper body of the subject is shown, with folded arms. His appointment went from 9 June 1920 - 30 May 1922. He resigned after a short time in office because he became disenchanted with the manner in which Parilament handled its finances.

Hack's Bridge over the Onkaparinga River at Mylor. This is possibly the first laminated arch bridge on the site. (From information provided) The bridge is 235 feet long and 20 feet wide. The breadth is divided into two tracks - one for drays and one for pedestrians. The footpath is raised 6 inches above the roadway. The bridge stands on one stone pier 9 feet thick. The first pile was driven in on August 20th, 1849 and was open to the public on June 6th, 1850.

Camel team at Hergott Springs. Seven artesian springs were used by botanist Joseph Albert Hergott who was travelling with Stuart's expedition. The springs were declared a government water reserve in 1860. A railway was built from Port Augusta to Hergott Springs in 1881. By this time the settlement already had a butcher shop, general store and a hotel

King William Street, Adelaide. The street is busy with horse drawn traffic. In the foreground a man is talking to the driver of a hire cart, and in the centre of the road is the taxi rank of the time - a line of horse cabs. Two horse trams are passing each other. On the extreme right is the Imperial Fire Assurance building, designed by Wright and Woods. In the centre distance the guardhouse for Government House can be seen. A sign on the lower left corner reminds horse drivers and riders to 'walk around corners and over crossings'.

This is the new residence of Adelaide's well-known Doctor James Phillips, replacing an earlier thatched cottage on the site (See B 7469). Western corner of North Terrace and Pulteney Street, Chalmers Church. The church was opened in 1851 and the tower was added in 1858. In 1929 the Flinders Street Presbyterian Church and Chalmers Church amalgamated under the new name of Scots Church. Chalmers Church was named after the Reverend Dr Thomas Chalmers, who supported the Free Church of Scotland. It was built by a group of early immigrants to South Australia.

[General description] This newly completed Botanic House complex is a fine example of the Victorian Terrace. The three storey portion of the building is a family temperance hotel and the terrace on the right was elegant housing 'with a fine view of the country'. It was designed by Michael McMullin and built by J.Barry for Richard Vaughan in 1876-77. Vaughan obtained a liquor licence in 1883. See B 7089 for a later view of the hotel with tiered verandahs.
